Walk to end Alzhelmer’s

In Community Interest, Local Business Profiles

The Alzheimer’s Association has been serving the Coachella Valley for over 23 years with care and support programs, education, outreach, information and referral services. As Alzheimer’s disease is the most expensive disease that a family can bear, our ability to maintain all of our programs and services free of charge to our desert residents is of paramount importance to our Alzheimer’s families.
In addition to our dynamic and active programming for local families, we are part of a 40 year old national organization with a very strong advocacy and public policy movement that ensures our families living with Alzheimer’s are represented at every level of government. We also are the largest private funder of Alzheimer’s disease research and have had a hand in every Alzheimer’s advancement for the 40 years of our existence.
One of the main ways we ensure that our local care and support services remain free of charge to the hundreds of desert residents who access them is through our annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year, the Walk will be held in person on Saturday, November 13th at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. The Walk is a wonderful way to honor our families living with Alzheimer’s, and for the Coachella Valley community to rally around them in support. All participants carry a Promise Flower in the color that best represents their connection to Alzheimer’s disease: Yellow for Caregivers, Purple for those who have lost someone to Alzheimer’s, Blue for those who have Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and Orange for those who support our mission of a World Without Alzheimer’s disease.
This year, we will be making every effort to ensure that all of our participants have a safe and secure experience by instituting protocols such as touchless registration, social distancing, staggered start times and other safety protocols. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a joyful event full of color, music and celebration.
We hope you’ll join us in this movement. Visit act.alz.org/cv to register or call the Alzheimer’s Association at 760-996-0006 for more information!
