Hyde’s Thyroid Cancer Awareness Journey

In Local Business Profiles

Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month is close to home for the family behind Hyde’s Air Conditioning. Shelby, the daughter of our Controller Mark Hyde and Director of operations Judy Hyde, was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 2016. Since then, we’ve supported Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, and we’ve raised more than $12,000 overall to contribute to advances in thyroid cancer research.

This year, Hyde’s Air Conditioning will donate $10 to the American Thyroid Association for every Hyde’s Family Comfort Plan Maintenance Agreement sold or renewed during September 2021. Our goal is to donate $3,500 to the American Thyroid Association (ATA), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing, understanding, preventing, diagnosing and treating thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer.

Shelby is now cancer-free, but her thyroid cancer journey saw ups and downs. Shelby was 21 when she was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer at 21, in February 2016. She had her thyroid removed that March, and underwent radio-iodine therapy in July 2016. Shelby was affected by cancer again in 2020, when cancer recurrence in her thyroid bed was operated on that September. Since that surgery, Shelby is confident that she’s healed.

Mark and Judy and the entire team at Hyde’s are proud of Shelby’s positive attitude in light of her ongoing health issues, and are grateful for the prayers, love, and support from the community. We hope you’ll join us in fighting thyroid cancer this year during Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month.

“I’m in awe of how my daughter handled her thyroid cancer recurrence in 2020. She relied on her faith, family and friends while still being an encouragement to others.”
Mark Hyde

“My faith walk and six-year cancer journey has taught me so much about myself while allowing me to share my story to encourage others to persevere and never to give up.”
-Shelby Hyde
